Henderson is one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. Located southeast of Las Vegas near Lake Mead and Boulder City, Henderson is Nevada’s second-largest city, and it boasts the highest per capita median household income in Southern Nevada.
The community developed in the shadow of the Basic Magnesium Plant, which supplied the nation with raw materials for munitions and airplane parts during World War II. After the war, the plant closed and Henderson’s growth slowed for several years.
In the late 1970s, the master-planned community of Green Valley was established in Henderson and southeast Las Vegas. Green Valley is known for its high-quality, family-oriented lifestyle. Schools in the area are among the best in the Clark County School District, and Green Valley High School was named one of the top 10 U.S. high schools in 1997.
Henderson is now home to nearly 25 master-planned communities. Some of the most popular include Anthem, Seven Hills, Green Valley Ranch, MacDonald Ranch and Lake Las Vegas.
